Anyone can do these
Check to see if your filter is dirty.
If a filter is too dirty it can restrict the airflow and cause your unit to over heat in heating or it can freeze up in cooling.
Batteries.
Some thermostats have batteries in them and if they die it will not operate your equipment.
Do you have power?
Typically on all units there is a sight glass to see a green or red LED light. If that light is on or flashing, then you have power.
Check fan operation.
The thermostat has an option for Fan On, make sure that is on and verify the fan comes on and blows air to the vents.
